Meteor Version Support Status

Which Meteor versions Galaxy hosts and what support you can expect from the Meteor core team.

So you're running a Meteor app on Galaxy. Great! But which version should you be on? And how long will it actually be supported? Let's break it down.

What Galaxy Hosts

Here's the good news: Galaxy hosts all major Meteor versions right now.

VersionGalaxy Hosting
Meteor 1.x✅ Supported
Meteor 2.x✅ Supported
Meteor 3.x✅ Supported

Now the important part: this doesn't mean all versions are created equal.

What the Meteor Core Team Supports

Galaxy's hosting support is different from the Meteor core team's support. The core team maintains the framework itself, and they've set different expectations for each version.

🚫 Meteor 1.x: End-of-Life

Not getting any more love here. No security patches. No bug fixes. If something breaks, you're on your own. The core team strongly recommends upgrading.

🚫 Meteor 2.x: End-of-Life

This one already reached the end. It entered maintenance mode in July 2025 and reached end-of-life in December 2025. No more security patches. No more support. Not getting any love here either. The core team strongly recommends upgrading.

Meteor 3.x: Actively Supported

This is where the action is. Full development. Bug fixes. Feature additions. It includes modern improvements too, like ESM support and SWC compilation. The core team recommends you upgrade here.

What Should You Actually Do?

If you're on Meteor 1.x or 2.x, start planning an upgrade to Meteor 3.x. Not immediately, necessarily, but sooner rather than later. Galaxy will keep hosting your version, but the Meteor core team won't be maintaining it.

Think of it this way: Galaxy is the hotel, and Meteor is the furniture. Galaxy keeps the lights on no matter what version you're using. But Meteor only builds new furniture for 3.x now. Both 1.x and 2.x are done getting any updates from the core team.

This doesn't have to be an emergency. If your app is stable and not hitting version-specific problems, you have time. Just make a plan. The sooner you upgrade, the longer you'll have access to improvements and security patches.

Ready to Upgrade?

Have questions about your migration path? The Meteor community forums are super helpful. You can also reach out on GitHub where the core team hangs out. And Galaxy support is here if you hit hosting-specific issues during your upgrade. Don't worry, you've got help.
