Database Settings

Manage your database backups and access the danger zone for permanent operations. Settings handles backup schedules, manual backups, and database deletion.

Backups

Your database backups are your safety net. Galaxy automatically backs up your database daily, and you can customize the schedule and retention period or create manual backups anytime.

Automatic Backup Schedule

Galaxy creates daily backups automatically. By default, backups are kept for 4 days at no additional cost. If you need longer retention for compliance or peace of mind, you can extend it. Extended retention comes with additional costs.

Click Edit Schedule to customize:

  • Backup Time (UTC): Pick the specific time your backups run. Choose a time outside your peak traffic hours to minimize performance impact.
  • Retention Period: How many days to keep automatic backups. Default is 4 days.

Changes take effect immediately for future backups.

Manual Backups

Click Create Manual Backup anytime to capture a snapshot outside the automatic schedule. Useful before major changes or migrations.

Note: You can create up to one manual backup per 24-hour period.

Downloading Backups

Each backup in the history table has an Actions column with a download icon. Click it to download a backup dump, useful for exporting data or archival purposes.

For Complete Backup Information

The Backups section here shows your backup history and lets you adjust schedules. For deeper details about how backups work, restoration, and extended retention options, see:

Danger Zone

This section contains permanent, irreversible actions. Proceed with caution.

Delete Database

Deleting your database permanently removes it and all its data. There's no recovery after deletion.

What happens:

  • Your database becomes inaccessible to your apps immediately
  • A 30-day backup is created automatically (for emergency recovery only)
  • You receive email notifications when deletion starts and completes
  • After 30 days, all backups are deleted permanently

Before you delete:

  • Export any data you need to keep
  • Make sure no apps are using this database
  • Verify you don't need the data for compliance or archival

Only delete if you're absolutely certain. Export critical data first. This cannot be undone.
